But coming closer to our year, I read three novels on the Risorgimento seen from the South, however, instructive for all, one of which, The Leopard (1958) by Tomasi di Lampedusa have never been enthusiastic, not least because in the years when I lived in Sicily came out and saw up close the living conditions of the feudal lords of the principles such as Tomasi. Of which, of course, he and his lovely wife did not know almost everything that he thought his keepers factors and to exploit them. I never liked the movie even the nobleman Visconti, though admirable for his paintings of the environment and the choreography as it was the novel in his description of fatalistic surrender to the "laws" of history.
The real novel of the Risorgimento in the South has always been for me Ms. Ava (1942) by Francesco Jovine, a forgotten masterpiece of our literature that says, simply, as the peasants lived for many things also applies to the Centre and North, so that everywhere along the long boots, peasants and proletarians were kept away from participation in the story, they were subject and sometimes victims). Since few people have read (Einaudi published it, the reissue Donzelli), try not to lose it, trust me! I'm re-reading the third novel in this day and is definitely "Bourbon: The legacy of the Prioress (1963) by Charles Alianello, best-selling forgotten (it was the Press, the publisher has reprinted a glorious Venosa, Osanna), but has much to teach, says the impetus with which the ferocity of the war between the Piedmontese army and bandits, the Northerners now ... What you learn is that in the Risorgimento good and the bad are equally divided the country, that there was a revolution, and that novels are often more of the essays in history, to understand where we come from.

'typically Italian. " In February 2003, the most important Italian newspapers devoted pages and pages to the death of Alberto Sordi, the popular actor to star in dozens of films of the Italian Republic. Almost all commentators were agreed that in his films Sordi had represented better than any other character of the Italians. For the Catholic newspaper Avvenire, was "the mirror" of Italy. The Corriere della Sera hailed him as "the hero of all our faults," while La Repubblica had embodied the 'art to be Italian "personifying" a mixture of defects "unequivocally Italic. The 'Unity' Deaf was a "great little Italian 'and the' Century of Italy" was a national symbol which for fifty years had given a "face to the vices and virtues of the Italians." Although the concept in academic rightly lost its legitimacy, this concept is still alive in popular culture, where, among other things, gives rise to an infinite number of jokes on ethnic grounds, and in journalism where it is the structure a number of reports on foreign countries. The national character is not the same thing as national identity, although in common parlance the two terms are often confused. Both concepts are quite elusive and lends itself to multiple definitions and uses, but we can say that the national character tends to refer to the provisions of "objective", established (a set of particular moral and mental traits) of a population, while national identity, a term coined more recently, tends to indicate a more subjective perception and self-images, which may involve a sense of mission and exhibition in the world. You will need to return to talk about the meanings of these terms is often disputed, but for now suffice it to say that, in practice, both concepts operate more or less that containers of different stakeholders tend to fill a variety of contents. Other titles are symptomatic of anxiety for the issue of modernity, or the lack of modernity, the country and the quality of its civic culture: Italy is a civilized country?, Le Italie parallel. Why Italy can not become a modern, civil identity of the Italians. And in newspapers and magazines these issues are boosted by titles such as Italians, people in masks, all scary and processed, the Italians? Anarchist sheep that do not form a nation, Italy is undone, but there are Italians, never will become a normal country?; What is Italy?.
As these examples show, the case of Deaf eloquently in recent years many citizens have questioned persistently about the meaning of being Italian. Although you may not even have the certainty of being a "real" nation, but many are convinced they have a national character, and the fact that this character does not make a good impression. In the early nineties, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the investigation "Clean Hands" corruption revealed a very large sector of the ruling class and the large number of politicians and businessmen were indicted. Following this the country witnessed the collapse of the whole party system that had ruled since the end of World War II. Immediately after the collapse of this system the hope of positive change were dashed when the country became the scene of devastating political rise of media mogul Silvio Berlusconi, who had acquired immense power in the field of commercial television, thanks to connections with important political figures in the party system that had just collapsed. Of course, long before these recent developments in Italy was known as a country where political corruption was widespread and the law was poorly observed and not sufficiently enforced. All these phenomena raise questions rather than legitimate not only the quality of institutions but also on the attitudes of the population. However, such attitudes equate to a "national character" is something quite different. This requires a more critical look, in fact, is the fact that many Italians read these realities through the lens of the concept of national character, especially when you consider that Italy, unfortunately, is not the only country that is facing with political corruption or conduct that, from a civil point of view, leave much to be desired. still a cute and clever Fofi intervention, this time on April 25, a date that continues to inspire and (alas) to divide the Italians. It's hard not to fall into the rhetoric of the event commemorating the liberation and resistance, but Fofi succeeds masterfully, starting from an object of everyday life jacket Ferruccio Parri.

Even (or why) the story of the Bucks had a Catholic background and socialist, and peasants instead of working.
Luciano Casali said very well in the preface to the book as it is born, commissioned Renato Nicolai, a journalist from the Dark Shops, the party (and in fact overseen by the same Togliatti). The book "Daddy Deer" sold in a few years nearly a million copies, also because the party prepares its paperback edition to fifty pounds, the one who kept all their lives. In 1971 an unknown censor "cleaned up" badly text from references to Stalin and the ideology of the Cold War, but one that offers Casali is the original edition, which followed the logic of those times, is that a lot of Italians have read and which were moved, getting all in all a life lesson - that of the deer family overwhelmed by history and punished for his ideals - always clean and valid.

Every day I read another economist, journalist or public official who opines on how best to achieve recovery of the economy in one country or another. It goes without saying that all contradict each other remedies. It seems to me that almost all these gurus are living in the world of fairies. Really seem to believe that their remedies work relatively quickly.
The fact is that the world is only the beginning of a depression that will last a long time 'and will become much worse now. The immediate problem for governments is how to recover, but how to survive the growing popular anger that all, without exception, are facing.

What I think we need people and we must prepare ourselves is what we'll do once we emerged from the cellar. The fundamental question is how to rebuild. That will be the real political battle. The view will not be familiar. And all our past rhetoric is suspect. It is crucial to realize that rebuilding can take us in a much better world - but in a much worse. In any case it will be a very different world.

Every day I read another economist, journalist or public official who opines on how best to achieve recovery of the economy in one country or another. It goes without saying that all contradict each other remedies. It seems to me that almost all these gurus are living in the world of fairies. Really seem to believe that their remedies work relatively quickly.
The fact is that the world is only the beginning of a depression that will last a long time 'and will become much worse now. The immediate problem for governments is how to recover, but how to survive the growing popular anger that all, without exception, are facing.
start with the economic realities of the present. Over the past 10-30 years in more or less everyone - governments, companies, individuals - have been living beyond their means, and they did borrowing.
