EDITORIAL capitalism and capitalism. Labor, Social Democracy and the New Deal were light years away from Nazism and fascism, which also had the backing of big capital. Just as capitalism and imperialism of the Bush administration we have fallen into a legal barbarism and savagery in a society, have a scorched earth civil rights, waste paper and the constitutional guarantees of habeas corpus, have reduced politics to war and the war on the secret police. Compared to that
capitalism, the United States of Obama are restoring some (not all) forms of legality, the blunt fury of faiths and partly reconciled with common sense and also with science. In many ways, Obama does not say that obviousness ("torture is unjust, "" allies should be consulted) and acts due (close secret prisons like Guantanamo, include carbon dioxide among the pollutants). The fact that they seem so revolutionary measures the barbarism, the regression in which we had fallen without realizing it.
Thus, at least for the moment, ended up in the attic the old monetarist orthodoxy, Friedmanites, whose only dogma is that the only absolute rationality resides in the free market, the only efficiency in private and that all that is public should be dismantled.
